Tis the Season to Be Smiling

Tis the Season to Be Smiling

Every year when December comes around, I take time to reflect on all the satisfying moments I’ve had helping my patients with their smiles. This year, I’ve had the opportunity and privilege of serving many new families and individuals for their general and cosmetic dental needs ranging from implants, teeth whitening, and alignment.

There has been one recurring theme that I’ve noticed time and time again. It’s this. Whether you’re a young child visiting me for the first time, a bride wanting to whiten your smile, or a senior getting a brand new smile, everyone typically leaves feeling grateful and happy—often because they know that they’ve done something good for themselves and their health.

That’s why I enjoy being a dentist. This year, I really want to thank all of you for your choosing me as your dentist. Because of you, I’ve been acknowledged as one of the top dentists in San Jose and Willow Glen. And that has me smiling with a deep appreciation for all of you.

As the last post for 2019 and the 2010 decade, I thought I’d leave you with more smiles. As you know, some people are recognized for their famous grins—it’s what makes them so unique. See if you can guess who these folks are from their pearly whites! And may your holiday smiles be just a bright!

Happy Holidays,
Dr. Raymond Lim

Top 5 Tips on Keeping Your Smile Happy and Healthy This Holiday Season

Now that the holiday season is here, it’s time to start thinking about all the wonderful fun, festivities and food you’ll be partaking with friends, family and colleagues.

All of us at Dental Smiles of Willow Glen definitely encourage you to “savor that flavors” this holiday season! However, since we know you’ll be dining a wider variety of foods, we’d like share a few helpful tips on how you can keep your smile happy and healthy while enjoying the cornucopia of casseroles, cakes and candy coming your way. (After all, there’s nothing worse that cracking a tooth or getting a cavity when you want to just enjoy the season’s celebrations!)

#1. Pack a travel toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash in your purse or bag wherever you go. This way you’ll be prepared for all those office parties and random holiday dishes your coworkers bring into work. After enjoying your snacks, brush your teeth! And you’ll be looking great for the next meeting.

#2. Don’t chew ice or hard candy! People drink more socially doing the holiday season. And eat a lot more candy than they typically do. So, if you’re one of those individuals who like to crunch on ice or want to try taffy, we recommend avoiding it completely (or just being very careful) it so you can avoid cracking your tooth.

#3. Avoid drinks that stain your teeth. (Or brush right after drinking them.) Red wines, color flavoring in drinks and certain foods can stain your teeth, which may not be the most attractive sight to see in holiday pictures! So keep how much you drink in mind, or brush regularly!

#4 Use a nutcracker. The holiday season invented the holiday nutcrackers for a reason. Make sure you use them when you’re cracking those hard nuts such as walnuts, pecans and more. And you’ll save yourself a trip to the dentist with a cracked tooth.

#5 Visit your dentist before the year end. To make sure your teeth are looking beautiful, visit your dentist—or if you don’t have one, make an appointment with family dentist Dr. Raymond Lim at Dental Smiles of Willow Glen—and make sure get a cleaning before the year end. It’s a great way to combat the effects of eating the sugary foods that could be detrimental to your health. And make sure you take advantage of your insurance benefits before they expire.
