With our San Jose dentist, teeth whitening is a popular treatment.
Keeping your teeth their whitest can be tough when coffee, wine, smoking and foods can stain your teeth on a daily basis. Even if you’re diligent in maintaining your teeth, chances are you still might want a brighter smile. That’s where Dr. Lim can help.
Today there are many teeth whitening methods that can restore the natural color of your teeth or even lighten them. Here they are:
Teeth whitening Options: Cosmetic Dentist San Jose vs Home Solutions
Whiten your teeth at home. Keep in mind that over-the-counter whitening gels, teeth whitening strips or other home teeth bleaching methods rarely provide the same results as a professional dental whitening product can. Store products take a longer time to achieve noticeable results—and then there’s a chance that your teeth may relapse back towards their original teeth color.
Whiten your teeth at Dr. Lim’s cosmetic dental practice. If you want to achieve the best teeth whitening results, choose the cosmetic dentist San Jose residents trust—Dr. Lim offers a wide range of proven teeth whitening methods to makeover any smile.

White Fillings and Bonding
Tooth bonding helps enhance the look of smile in two ways: first, by using a composite filling; and second, by using a tooth bonding material to correct cracks or gaps in your teeth. For example, after a cavity has been removed, tooth bonding is often used to fill in the gap. Bonding can also be used to cover up stains or discolored teeth.
We use a composite resin filling to restore any of your affected teeth. After the resin has been applied and molded on the tooth, we use ultraviolet light to harden the resin. Then, we polish your teeth to give you a fresh new smile.
The tooth bonding process can involve many different shades to match the color of your teeth. Bonding and white fillings are an obvious improvement over unsightly silver amalgam fillings. It is a safe, affordable and attractive solution for many dental problems.
Dental Crowns: For Better Health and a Nicer Smile
We use the dental crown procedure when a filling or bonding will not be sufficient. Crowns solve problems such as decay, cracks, discoloration and other issues that occur as we get older.
In addition to repairing your teeth, crowns can also improve your smile. If you feel your smile is not what it once was, dental crown molding can help you recover your smile.
Types of dental crowns. Crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or from gold. Better yet, any tooth can have a crown. For natural look and feel, we recommend a porcelain finished crown which can match the shade of your other teeth.
The Dental Crown Procedure
This process takes 2-3 visits to the dentist. On the first visit, we’ll reshape your tooth so that the crown can be placed over it. You’ll be given a local anesthetic beforehand so you won’t experience any discomfort.
Once the tooth has been reshaped, we’ll take a mold of that tooth as well as the surrounding teeth. Then, we’ll send it to a dental lab so that your new crown can be personalized to fit naturally with your surrounding teeth.
Before you leave our office, we’ll fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready, which will take about two weeks. At your follow-up visit, we’ll place and fit your permanent crown. Then, when you look in the mirror, you’ll see your old smile again! Make sure to care for your crown as you would any of your other teeth— with regular brushing and flossing. Our crowns are durable and can last over a decade.
What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are a very thin ceramic shell that covers your existing tooth structure. They are an excellent way to redesign and reshape your entire mouth. Veneers placed on your teeth can fix the look of cosmetic issues such as staining, cracked teeth, spaces, misaligned teeth, chipped teeth and other problems.
How do dental veneers work?
The porcelain veneers procedure takes approximately two to three visits. On your first visit, Dr. Lim will discuss your new smile’s personalized shape and appearance. During the next visit, he’ll finalize the style of your look, and carefully begin the porcelain veneers procedure.
Our San Jose cosmetic dentistry staff will prepare your teeth for the placement of the new veneers and take an impression, which will be sent to our lab for the final product fabrication. At Dental Smiles in Willow Glen, we manufacture your veneers in our laboratory according to the highest quality standards. This lab process typically takes between 10-14 days. In the meantime, we’ll provide you with beautiful temporary veneers to wear while your new veneers are being made.
When the veneers are finalized, we’ll ensure that your new veneers will feel as natural as your original teeth. We’ll bond your veneers into place, so that you can enjoy your new smile for years.
Dental bridge repair is a great way to replace missing teeth. The dental bridge process involves using your existing teeth to literally create a bridge to cross the area where your tooth is missing. Dental bridge materials can be made from gold, metal, alloys or porcelain to ensure that they are strong and durable.
The bridge consists of two crowns on either end that are placed on the abutments as well as a pontic, which is the new tooth that replaces your missing tooth. Dental bridge work consists of creating abutments out of your existing teeth—this where the bridge will be attached. Your existing teeth are re-contoured to provide a base for the bridge. After the abutments have been created, we’ll take a mold of the area and then send it to a dental lab where it will be fitted for your mouth.
Temporary Bridge. While we wait for your permanent dental bridge, we’ll fit you with a temporary dental bridge. This will protect the abutments and the exposed gum areas, plus look more appealing than having a missing tooth.
After the permanent bridge is created, you’ll have a follow-up visit to fit the bridge, using cement to place it permanently.
Avoid hard foods for the first few days after having your bridge placed. Following the initial phase, you’ll be able to eat whatever you want with no issues, and feel like you have your own teeth back in a matter of days.
