Porcelain Veneers

Picture of Veneers

Porcelain veneers are an excellent way to redesign and reshape your entire mouth. Veneers are a very thin ceramic shell that covers your existing tooth structure. When placing veneers on your teeth, we are able to fix the look of cosmetic issues such as staining, cracked teeth, spaces, misaligned teeth, chipped teeth and many other issues.

How do dental veneers work? Usually, the porcelain veneers process takes approximately two to three visits. On your first visit, we will discuss your new smile’s personalized shape and appearance. After finalizing the style of your look, we will carefully begin the porcelain veneers procedure. Our San Jose cosmetic dentistry staff will prepare your teeth for the placement of the new veneers and take an impression. This impression will be sent to our laboratory for the final product to be fabricated. We only utilize the highest quality standards in our laboratory when manufacturing your veneers. Usually, this process at the laboratory takes between 10-14 days. We will provide you with beautiful temporary veneers to wear while your new veneers are being fabricated at the lab.

When the veneers are finalized, we make every effort to ensure that your new veneers will feel as natural as your original teeth. We do this by bonding your veneers into place, ensuring that you can enjoy your new smile for years.

Teeth Whitening

We believe that everyone should have access to improving their lives with a healthy smile. However, keeping our teeth the whitest is a lot harder than it sounds — coffee, wine, smoking and foods stain our teeth on a daily basis. Even if you are diligent in giving your teeth proper maintenance, you might want a brighter smile. Thankfully, there are many teeth whitening methods that can restore the natural color of your teeth or brighten them to a different shade.

Some people practice teeth whitening at home. Unfortunately, it can be risky to rely on over the counter whitening gels, teeth whitening strips or other home teeth bleaching methods. Ultimately, these over-the-counter products cannot provide the same results as a professional. Furthermore, the products available in stores take a longer time to achieve noticeable results and you can relapse towards your original teeth color in the future. For this reason, you should have a San Jose cosmetic dentistry professional work with you in order to achieve the best teeth whitening results. Dr. Lim offers a wide range of teeth whitening methods to makeover any smile.

White Fillings and Bonding

Tooth bonding is a popular method to enhance the aesthetics of your smile with a composite filling. Tooth bonding material can be used to correct cracks or gaps in your teeth. For example, tooth bonding for gaps are often used as a filling after a cavity has been removed; additionally, they are used to cover up stains or discolored teeth.

We use a composite resin filling to restore any of your affected teeth. After the resin has been applied and molded on the tooth, ultraviolet light is used to harden the resin. Afterward, we polish your teeth to give you a fresh new smile. The tooth bonding process can involve many different shades to match the color of your teeth. Bonding and white fillings are an obvious improvement over unsightly silver amalgam fillings. It is a safe, affordable and attractive solution for many dental problems.

Dental Crowns

Over time our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks, discoloration and other issues. The dental crown procedure is used when a filling or bonding will not be sufficient. Not only can crowning a tooth repair your teeth, but it can also improve your smile. If you feel your smile is not what it once was, dental crown molding can help you recover your smile. In addition, dental crown material can prevent future problems if you have teeth that are decayed, weak or cracked.

There are many dental crown types. Crowns can be made from porcelain, porcelain fused to metal or a full gold crown. Furthermore, getting a crown on your tooth can involve any of your teeth. To maintain a natural look and feel, a porcelain finished crown is best. This is because it can be matched to the shade of your other teeth. This will allow it to blend in and appear just like one of your natural teeth.

The process of installing a dental crown takes 2-3 visits to the dentist. On the first visit, your tooth will be reshaped so that the crown can be placed over it. You will be given a local anesthetic before this part of the procedure so that you do not experience any discomfort. Once the tooth has been reshaped, a mold will be taken of that tooth as well as the surrounding teeth. This mold will be sent to a dental lab so that your new crown can be personalized to fit naturally with your surrounding teeth. Before leaving, we will fit you with a temporary crown until your permanent crown is ready. The crown takes about 2 weeks to be made and returned to our San Jose cosmetic dentistry office. The subsequent follow-up visit will be to place and fit your permanent crown. We will again use local anesthetic to numb the area and place your tooth with cement. Our crowns are durable and can last over a decade.

Afterward, when you look in the mirror, you will see your old smile again. You should care for it as you would any of your other teeth with regular brushing and flossing.

Dental Bridges

Dental bridge repair is a great way to replace missing teeth. The dental bridge process involves using your existing teeth to literally create a bridge to cross the area where your tooth is missing. Dental bridge materials can be made from gold, metal, alloys or porcelain to ensure that they are strong and durable.

The bridge consists of two crowns on either end that are placed on the abutments and a pontic, which is the new tooth that replaces your missing tooth. Your dental bridge work begins by creating abutments out of your existing teeth where the bridge will be attached. Your existing teeth are re-contoured to provide a base for the bridge. After the abutments have been created, a mold is taken of the area which is then sent to a dental lab. Your dental mold is personalized to fit naturally in your mouth.

While we wait for your permanent dental bridge, we will fit you with a temporary dental bridge. This will protect the abutments and the exposed gum areas and look more appealing than having a missing tooth. After the permanent bridge is created, you will have a follow-up visit to fit the bridge. It will be placed on the abutments and our San Jose cosmetic dentist will use dental bridge cement to place the bridge permanently.

Avoid hard foods for the first few days after having your bridge placed. After the initial phase, you will be able to eat whatever you want with no issues. You will feel like you have your own teeth back after a few days.

Missing a Tooth?

If you are missing a tooth you should strongly consider having it replaced. Not only is a missing tooth an aesthetic disadvantage, but also a danger. For example, your missing tooth can cause structural changes to your mouth and jaw. Worse, in some cases, a missing tooth results in difficulty eating or speaking properly.
