San Jose Invisalign

Picture of invisalignDental Smiles of Willow Glen can be a source of San Jose teeth straightening. Even if you have had traditional metal braces at one time in the past and your teeth need further aligning, you may be an ideal candidate for Invisalign. Dr. Lim looks forward to helping determine your teeth straightening needs.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth using 3D computer imaging. Clear teeth aligners are custom created to help reposition your teeth.

How long is each aligner worn?

Each aligner is worn approximately two weeks, which allows your teeth to move your teeth little by little. Dr. Raymond Lim will determine at each visit whether or not it’s time to switch.

How is Invisalign different than metal braces?

Unlike traditional braces, there are no metal brackets or wires involved with Invisalign. Aligners are also removable, giving you the flexibility to eat and drink what you want with ease there will be no food getting trapped between wires in the back of your mouth! You can also remove aligners to brush and floss as you normally would to maintain good oral hygiene.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?

At your initial visit, Dr. Lim will determine if Invisalign is right for you. Because some dental implants, bridges, or crowns restrict movement, we need to examine your mouth to determine how you may respond to aligners.

How does it work?

Aligners move teeth with a controlled, predetermined movement. Unlike traditional braces, the aligners not only control the amount of movement each time they are switched but also the timing of the movement. This means that only certain teeth are moving while others are stationary.

How long is the course of treatment overall?

Patients typically visit our dentist every six to eight weeks to ensure the treatment is progressing as mapped out and to receive their next few sets of aligners. Dr. Lim will decide based on your treatment if more or fewer visits are necessary as you progress; most adults can complete their treatment in approximately one year.

Will the process be painful for me?

Some people may experience minor discomfort for several days at the beginning of each new aligner’s use. This sensation, usually described as pressure, is a sign that the aligners are working properly. Discomfort typically stops after several days following the placement of a new aligner.

I have gaps; can this process help them close?

In most cases, the aligners will help bring teeth much closer together.
Once the process is complete, will I be required to wear a retainer?
Retainers act to protect the final positioning of teeth and will be suggested in almost all cases. Your last set of aligners will most likely act as a temporary retainer until we fit one for you. At your visit we will determine what type of retainer is ideal for your dental needs.

Will my speech be affected?

In almost all cases speech is not affected.
